Comings and Goings

I could start this off by giving some reason why I haven't been posting as much, but the reality is that sometimes your mind just moves on to other things. Once that happens, it's hard to get back in the swing of things. Rather than hash out any reasoning, let me just give an update on yours truly.

I've previously blogged on how much corporate life is scarcely a life at all - an existence plagued by the mediocrity of your own effortless day-by-day grind that is further affronted by the malaise of co-workers. You grow to despise virtually everyone you work with calling them lazy, overpaid and worthless. It's very sad. And it's awful to realize that you've spent 20 years preparing for a career you're certainly going to hate.

So I quit. I quit almost two months ago. Not only did I quit, but I left to work with Aaron (Krowne, co-blogger) on the infamous Mortgage Lender Implode-O-Meter. So far, things are moving along well - just trying to get through this frivolous lawsuit and get up and running another Implode site, the Hedge Fund Implode-O-Meter. I've also started up a couple other projects, the first of which is AnarchyWARE as previously noted. The second is still in its developmental stages, Bernanke Panky.

AnarchyWARE will be putting out designs as they come about - Aaron and I both have some good ideas that might make funny or interesting tshirts. If you have any ideas that you'd love to see on a tshirt, let me know about them. I don't anticipate making much moola off AnarchyWARE, but it's a hell of a lot of fun to design tshirts so it is what it is.

Can a guy make a living off of the internet? Well, I'm certainly hoping so - I think I speak for Aaron in saying he's hoping so, too. We'll see what happens, and you can rest assured we'll be keeping reaDers up to speed.

Wow... Good for you! I hope it all works out for the best, and if nothing else, you're still at a point in life where you've got all sorts of options if it doesn't.

For me, it's a couple more years to get my life in order, then I want to hang up the engineering spurs and start a brewery...

way to go! i'm proud of you for putting your money where your mouth is. so many people have dreams of being free, but put it off and then put it off again.

how 'bout a post in which you outline how you think a better government could arise in the U.S.?

what do you think about this?

here's the important part:

My proposal is this: resisting arrest should only be a crime which is prosecutable once an individual is convicted of the crime for which they were arrested. Empower yourself and your fellow citizens.

I sure wish I had the cajones to copy and paste that into an email to my boss. But alas, my sole motivation is to earn enough to upgrade my 42 inch plasma TV to a 103 inch plasma TV, upgrade my Camry to a Lexus, stainless steel applicances and a bigger pool. If I stick it out for another 18 years I'll earn an extra 62 dollars in Social Security. Woohoo. What a crummy existence.

Good luck - I just hope you and Aaron don't get blamed for the whole credit bubble implosion.

Tim,

Thanks... as for blame; maybe I should take a page from the Greenspan playbook: "any attention is good attention."

You can probably relate and appreciate one of the more famous "I quit" stories...

I hadn't seen that before. Always wondered what he had to say about the whole experience and I guess that's about all he was willing to share. Reconfirms my ambivalence about fame and fortune.

Justin...

I think fortune is a great thing. Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy freedom, which is a pretty significant component to me. Fame, on the other hand, would be my own personal hell.

Good point - I think I can handle fortune ok. It's the combination that is really the problem for a lot of folks. And I admit I'd hate to be surrounded by people who are only befriending me because they were enamored by my wealth and celebrity status.

You know, if your beer wins this competition, you'll be a bit of a celeb!

A little bit of celebrity goes a long way... Getting recognized once every few months by people who are all about beer would be kind of flattering... Getting recognized every day everywhere I went would be hell.
